SONG LYRICS

Looking Back: The Best of 3...Plus
I can’t really call this a greatest hits album. It’s just a mix of songs from my first 3 albums, and I wanted to show a little bit of variety in those songs. I also wanted to promote the albums. At the same time I was working on a 4th album, but I wasn’t happy with where it was headed, so I took the best 4 and coupled them with 12 songs from the first 3:

Mikki - (4:43)
It was just about a year ago I saw her on the stage
Red hair and sultry lips, she was all the rage
The way she played the bass that night I couldn’t look away
And as I watched I hoped that she’d be mine someday

I swear she looked at me and then she gave a wink
She stole my heart that night, all dressed up in pink
Twenty thousand people but she sang to only me
Voice of an angel, a living fantasy

Mikki I am begging you to let me be your man
I know that you don’t know me yet, but I’m your biggest fan
Just a kiss from you would feel like Heaven from above
Mikki Mikki let me be your love

I’d resigned to living on the dark side of the sun
But now my hope is maybe we will both wind up as one
Face of a goddess that has brought me to my knees
I’ve got to find a way to make her notice me

I think about her every day, her pictures fill my wall
I threw my number on the stage, hoping that she’d call
I even joined her fan club, oh about a month ago
And as she tours from coast to coast, I’m at every show
Sitting in the front row

I’m not much of a talker, Mikki, but I can talk to you
My friends think I’m a stalker, ah but you know that’s not true
(now don’t you Mikki)
Your smile lights the evening sky, turns nighttime into day
Mikki if you’d only look my way

I know your favorite color, and the lipstick that you use
I know the car you drive, Mikki, and all your pairs of shoes
I know that you don’t eat right, and when you sleep at night
I know your closet is a mess, but I bet you rock that satin dress

Mikki, Mikki, please believe I never meant you harm
All I ever wanted was to hold you in my arms
That restraining order, well let’s put that all behind
Call me if you ever change your mind (Mikki)
Call me if you ever change your mind (Mikki)
I’m right here if you ever change your mind

I was watching a Bangles video on YouTube one night, and as I read the user comments, I noticed a lot of creepy, obsessive comments about the bass player, Michael (Micki) Steele. Some of the song's lyrics were taken from those comments.

Instruments played: 6-string acoustic guitars; bass guitar; drums; electric guitars; lead guitar; piano; organ; keyboards; cowbell; tambourine; shaker; lead and background vocals.

Dance with the Devil - (3:36)
From across the dance floor he’s got his eye on you
You may be flattered, but you’re not sure what to do
He’s strolling towards you now, and though you hesitate
You realize by now it’s much too late

His hands are cold and sweaty, and his eyes are cold as ice
He whispers in your ear he’ll show you Paradise
He’s oh so charming, you know you can’t refuse
He plays a game that you can only lose

When you dance with the devil you’re going to be burned
You keep running to him though you should be concerned
That he’s not really what he seems, and now you’ve finally
learned
That dancing with the devil always leaves you burned

He’s settled down inside you, your head is spinning round
You hear the words he speaks, but he never makes a sound
You’re trapped inside his spell, unable to resist
Intoxicated, driven by his kiss

The devil’s on the phone now, he’s calling you collect
He gave you all you’ve got, what did you expect
He’s made the bed you sleep in, nothing more to say
The devil’s called, and now it’s time to pay

Not much to say here. Just be careful with the life choices you make. They may come back to bite you!

Instruments played: 6-string acoustic guitars; bass guitar; brushes; tambourine; pianos; harmonica; lead and background vocals

A New Girl - (2:24)
One day I hit the local bar and had myself a drink
And then I went to town to see the neighborhood shrink
He was into Tarot cards and voodoo, I think
He eyed me up and down and with a smile gave me a wink

(And he said) Come over here, why don’t you tell me what is
wrong
(And I said) Me and my lady friend can’t seem to get along
(And I said) We hardly ever speak, and all the passion is gone
He cleared his throat, and then he spoke to me in song

(And he said) I think it’s time for you to go and find a new girl
Leave it all behind and maybe travel this world
The answer’s right in front of you, I think you will agree
A brand new girl is what you need

I said we’ve been together for a number of years
The situation’s dire and it’s worse than it appears
She’s on the phone all day, and then at night she disappears
If there’s a solution, tell me know ‘cause I’m all ears

(And he said) My friend, I think it’s time for you to find a new girl
Don’t waste another minute, go and travel, see the world
(And he said) She’s got you going crazy, and she’s driving you to drink
A new girl is the way to go, I think

He said your time is up, but you can come see me again
My next appointment’s on her way, I’m seeing her at ten
Put your faith in me, and you can trust me like a friend
Leave her, you’ll be better in the end

I finally got the nerve to tell her we were both through
But unbeknownst to me my girl was seeing him too
And now they’re both together and upon further review
I got the better of the deal, I’ve got a word or two

(To tell him) I wish you lots of luck because you’ve found a new girl
See how long it lasts, go out and give it a whirl
I’m taking your advice, I’m going to travel, see the world
And maybe go and find a new girl

Not much to say about this song. Wanted to do something a little
different than what I’m used to doing. I call it American Ska.

Instruments played: 6-string acoustic guitar; bass guitar; electric guitars; lead guitar; organ; keyboards (marimba); drums; tambourine; lead, harmony, and background vocals.

There's a Train in the Distance - (4:22)

Lying in bed as I try to fall asleep
To thee, oh Lord, I pray my soul to keep
Out of the silence a lone whistle blows
Now wide awake, eyes refusing to close

Somewhere inside me a feeling takes a hold
I start to shiver though it’s not very cold
Out in the evening, cold steel and freight
Midnight approaches, the hour’s getting late

There’s a train in the distance calling out to me
Taking me somewhere that I wanna be
Train in the distance, memories and plans
From an eternal dreamer, a much younger man

Finally close my eyes, I’m in my childhood room
Bathed in the light of a silvery moon
I feel the warmth and a comfort in my bed
Quite unaware of the life that lies ahead

Train in the distance taking me home
The girl I first kissed, the Chevy I once owned
The game-winning home run and my first guitar
Nights in the backyard as I looked up to the stars

Aches, pains, and wrinkles are a part of my day
Don’t see in black and white, only see in gray
Can’t go back, this much I know
But still that lonely whistle blows

There’s a train in the distance drawing me near
But it’s left me behind, and as I shed a tear
I think back to a place and a time long ago
Where that train’s headed, I just don’t know

Train in the distance calling out to me
Taking me somewhere that I’d rather be
I think back to a time so long ago
Where that train’s headed, I just don’t know

I used to hear freight trains late at night where I lived 2 years ago, and it reminded me of when I was a kid staying at my grandparents’ house. There were always freight trains blowing their whistles at night. It was a nice memory, and it took me back to days gone by.
